Our Church

Sovereign Grace Bible Church (SGBC) is a church-plant that started in February of 2007. We are new and young, yet we love the old truth “which was once for all handed down to the saints” (Jude 3).

Here's a brief glimpse of what SGBC is all about:

We Are Reformed

To be “Reformed” means several things. Historically, it means that we trace our roots to the Reformation, when John Calvin and others led the movement to reform the church according to Scripture. Theologically, it means belief in the absolute sovereignty of God and that the highest good is God’s glory. This historical and theological heritage is often expressed in the “five solas” or the “five alones” of the Reformation – i.e., God’s sovereign grace alone, through faith alone, in Jesus Christ alone, which is revealed in Scripture alone, all for God’s glory alone. All that is to say, God’s sovereign grace alone is the only way to be reconciled to God, faith alone is the only means of receiving God’s grace, Christ alone is the only ground of God’s saving grace,Scripture alone is the only infallible authority for belief, and God’s glory alone is the ultimate purpose for the lives of men and women.

All true “Reformed” churches would readily admit that no church has fully arrived. That is why we would rather say we are striving to be reformed or “reforming” church.

We Are Evangelical

The term “evangelical” comes from the New Testament word euaggelion which refers to “good-news” or the “gospel.” Hence, evangelicals are people who believe that the gospel is powerful to deliver and transform men who are by nature sinners and sinful to be reconciled to God through faith in the substitutionary death of his son Jesus Christ. And such belief is best expressed in evangelizing or gospelizing all nations by the means of church planting and world missions.

We Are Baptist

Historically, Baptists have affirmed and practiced credo-baptism or believer’s baptism, as opposed to infant baptism. However, Baptists are known more than simply the mode of baptism. We (SGBC) affirm historical confessions such as the 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith and the Baptist Faith and Message. We are affiliated with the Shepherds' Fellowship, the 9Marks, Founders, the Gospel Coalition, and recently the Southern Baptist Convention.
